SciELO Brazil reaches 150 titles

With the integration of new journals approved by the Advisory Committee, the SciELO Brazil collection reaches the 150 title mark. In 2006, the collection should publish between 170 and 180 titles. Publications from several areas have been included, widening the collection's scope and the options available to the user. Among the new titles, there are many journals on health, education, environment, history, economics, and several subjects and issues published by other highly-regarded publishers in the scientific community. Casa de Oswaldo Cruz and the Ministry of Health in Chile celebrate the conclusion of the technical cooperation project in cultural heritage of health

A technical cooperation program celebrated with the countries covered by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) provided the funds to develop the subject area health cultural heritage, involving Casa de Oswaldo Cruz of Fiocruz, in Brazil, and the Cultural Heritage Unit of the Ministry of Health, in Chile. The program was also supported by PAHO's offices in Chile and in Brazil. The project falls within the scope of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and History and Cultural Heritage on Health development. The purpose of the VHL is to strengthen scientific and technical exchange in the priority areas of archives and cultural heritage documentation, as well as research and development of oral accounts

Emílio Ribas graduates first class in a program promoted by agreement between the Brazilian Ministry of Health and Unaids

In September 2004, an agreement was celebrated between the Joint United Nations Program on HIV /Aids and the Brazilian Government. UNIAIDS main responsibility is to suggest and support cooperation agreements among the countries of the Southern Hemisphere to strengthen and support these countries responses to AIDS. The first of these initiatives was concluded on February 17, 2006, in the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas [Institute of Infectious Diseases Emílio Ribas] with the support of Hospital Ipiranga. SciELO Publication System runs pilot with two journals

On February 7-10, 2006, Fabiana Montanari and Roberta Takenaka, from the Electronic Journal Publication Unit (PPE) of BIREME/PAHO/WHO, went to the city of Ribeirão Preto, State of Sao Paulo, to give technical support to the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research and the Genetics and Molecular Biology teams. FSP and BIREME organize forum of scientific editors in the World Congress of Public Health

Peer-review and ethics in scientific publishing will be the main topic of a forum to be held during the 11th World Congress of Public Health and the 8th National Congress of Collective Health. The forum is directed to scientific editors and those interested in scientific communication in public health. Helena Nader is granted the title of Professor Honoris Causa from the UFRN

On February 17, 2006, Helena Bonciani Nader was granted the title of Professor Honoris Causa from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Helena is the head of the discipline of Molecular Biology of the Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo (Unifesp). The university is one of the signatory parties of the agreement to support BIREME/PAHO/WHO, and Helena is the representative appointed by the Principal Ulysses Fagundes Neto for the National Advisory Committee of BIREME
