Health Evidence Network at the VHL motivates workshop in São Paulo, Brazil

The workshop on the Health Evidence Network at the VHL was held in Sao Paulo, on April 10-11, 2006. It was dedicated to the analysis of the HEN methodology for the identification, organization and dissemination of evidences to support decision making policies in public health. The HEN network is promoted and coordinated by the WHO Regional Office for Europe (Euro), and it was presented by Anca Dumitrescu, Director, Special Programme on Public Health Publishing (Euro/WHO). Abel Packer, Director of BIREME/PAHO/WHO, presented the terms of reference to the construction of the Health Evidence Network at the VHL and also coordinated the event, held in the context of the VHL on Public Health with the collaboration of MS, SBMFC and the Cochrane Center Brazil

Comparing the knowledge tables of ScienTI Network and OCDE

Advancing the works performed at the 4th Meeting of the Regional Coordination of ScienTI Network, held in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, in September 2005, Portugal and Chile produced a document comparing the classification systems of fields of knowledge at the ScienTI Network. Most participating countries implemented the same table of fields of knowledge – CvLAC. SciELO Chile Journal Acta Bioethica, last issue focuses on information technology

BIREME launches new version of the LILDBI-Web application for LILACS online data entry

The LILDBI-Web, main application of the LILACS Methodology, and its version in three languages (Portuguese, Spanish and English) enables bibliographic data bases online data entry including bibliographic description and indexing of scientific and technical health documents. The LILACS data entry is carried out by a network of more than 300 Latin American and Caribbean cooperating centers using the LILDBI. This new version offers a series of new functionalities and improvements in the interface of navigation and in the forms of elements of data entry. VHL for Public Health Surveillance is promoted in Colombia

March 9, 2006 was a landmark for those responsible for developing the VHL PHS in Colombia. This was the day of the first meeting present to the VHL PHS and its most recent developments. "We invited 56 people from the public sector and from the academic environment. The idea was to hold a debate and listen the suggestions to improve what we have", said Yolanda Ruan de la Carrera, information professional, who is the focal point for the development of the VHL PHS and for the institutions members on the Advisory Committee of the VHL, including the MPS and the INVIMA in Colombia

A book on scientific communication launched in April has BIREME´s team authors

The changes in the scientific production and communication flow are timely issues. At the end of April 2006, a new book related to this subject will be launched: “Comunicação e Produção Científica: contexto, indicadores e avaliação”, organized by Prof. Dr. Dinah Aguiar Población (CBD/ECA/USP). BIREME/PAHO/WHO, through the contributions of its Director, Abel Packer, and collaborators Regina Castro, Rogério Meneghini and Rogério Mugnaini, took part in the preparation of this important book, written under a decentralized work methodology by groups of specialized authors
