WHO resumes development of the Global Health Library (GHL)

The World Health Organization (WHO), through its Knowledge Management and Sharing (KMS) Unit, has commanded an international cooperative effort to build up and expand the impact of the GHL Network. Among the actions taken, it is worth mentioning a survey to assess the concept and performance of the GHL portal, developed in cooperation with the BIREME/PAHO/WHO and based on the VHL platform. Targeted primarily at the librarian community, the survey is designed to gather and sum up proposals of priority services and potentialities, so that the GHL fulfill its goal of developing capacities to democratize access to scientific information on health generated worldwide

ISSI 2009 organizes a striking scientific program

The 12th International Conference on Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI 2009), an excellence global forum in this field, will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), on July 14-17, 2009. The program includes workshops, keynote speeches and presentations of scientific papers, involving researchers from all regions of the world who will discuss the theoretical advances and applications regarding the state-of-the-art in Scientometrics and Informetrics. Telehealth Brazil celebrates results and debates about expansion

Converging actions to support the National Telehealth Program - Brazil and the VHL Primary Healthcare, a seminar and thematic workshops were held in Brasilia, in June 2009, gathering representatives from all Brazilian states and the Federal District. There were participants from all government levels, relevant organizations and Telehealth teams. The discussions about results and challenges aimed to promote political articulation among the partners, in addition to sensitizing new participants and suggesting actions to expand the program

VHL Chile is certified

The Virtual Health Library of Chile is certified according to the quality criteria of the VHL methodology and keeps developing its working plan for 2008-2009, under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, through its Sub-Secretariat of Public Health. The certification acknowledges the management and operation of the VHL Network in Chile towards democratization of scientific and technical production in health

Researchers assess impacts of science in open access in the United Kingdom

In a study ordered by the United Kingdom Research Councils (RCUK), the investigators analyzed the publication of scientific research results in Open Access (OA). Among other considerations, the study indicates a trend towards adopting the modality in the researcher community of the region. They also present the strengths and weaknesses, obstacles, adjustments to the needs of scientific communication, in addition to making warnings and recommendations considering the points of view of producers and users of such studies

VHL Innocuity of Food Products will strengthen social and content networks

In order to harmonize actions to control food products, dietary health is one of the major areas demanding more updated and relevant sources of information.
