Mirta Roses Periago, Director of the PAHO/WHO, was in Brazil on August 23-27, 2010. After meetings in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, the Director visited the BIREME/PAHO/WHO on August 26 and the focus of the activity was the new institutional landmark of the Center. The Director met some of the main representatives of the institutions that support BIREME - Ministry of Health, State Secretariat of Health of Sao Paulo and Universidade Federal de São Paulo, and participated in a meeting with the collaborators of the Center. To update the requirements for submission of scientific works, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommends the biomedical journals to provide the authors the new form of Disclosure of Conflict of Interests. The updated form, which had the collaboration from the BIREME/PAHO/WHO in the Portuguese version, should also be adopted by the LILACS and SciELO networks, after their approval

The Interagency Network of Information for Health (RIPSA) adopts the VHL model to provide information about the use of health indicators built based on national data and research. Through cooperation projects with BIREME, as from 2006, the VHL RIPSA has advanced and the most recent results include the new interface of the portal, presenting contents in three languages and using the integrated search system iAHx, among other improvements that contributed to enhance visibility of the network

The implementation of technologies and methodologies within the VHL Leprosy strengthens access to and visibility of information sources about the control of the disease in Brazil. By means of a cooperation project between the Instituto Lauro de Souza Lima (ILSL) and the BIREME/PAHO/WHO, the VHL Leprosy is now available in English and Spanish, and enhances its Contents Network with digitization of part of the collection International Journal of Leprosy, among other improvements implemented in 2010
